BYOD: getting it virtually right

From IT Adviser

The IT industry has undergone rapid changes in the past few years alone, so organisations' IT departments must ensure they're on the ball, ready to deal with fast-growing and emerging trends.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is one such development. But as uptake increases, organisations are struggling to find manageable, secure and cost-effective ways to go about implementing it.

The mobile market is going through a period of extreme growth and global shipments of smartphones and tablets are now exceeding those of more traditional devices. Organisations therefore need a solution in place to support BYOD as it evolves into an integral IT strategy.

This requirement is exacerbated by the problem of IT staff shortages. A report last year from the European Commission predicted that there will be a shortage of 700,000 IT professionals by 2015, leaving some organisations struggling to get the necessary manpower to properly address this fast-evolving landscape.
