NCC Members Question: Public Sector Online Services

NCC Members can ask relevant questions to the wider NCC membership, moderated by NCC. We collate the responses, where appropriate anonymise them, then publish the results on the website for the benefit of the wider Membership. Can you help?

A public sector organisation is commissioning a project to enable services to be made available online. The project has 4 elements, namely, registration and authentication via Government Gateway, online forms, data transfer and system to system transfer.

  1. Can any members with experience of similar projects offer any advice?
  2. Has anyone implemented a Federated Authentication solution? What are benefits v costs?
  3. Any recommendations for secure data transfer products?
  4. Does a support:build cost ratio of 2:1 seem disproportionate for this type of project?
